Review:

The engineering application called iSection is designed for structural engineers, steel designers, and mechanical engineers. It provides calculations for mechanical and structural properties of three-plate built-up section members, such as moment of inertia, modulus of section, radius of gyration, area, and weight in both principal axes.

This tool proves to be particularly beneficial for the analysis and design of indeterminate structures and determining actual and allowable stresses in structural members like beams and columns.

Users input top flange width, top flange thickness, bottom flange width, bottom flange thickness, web depth, and web thickness, with the flexibility for the top and bottom flange dimensions to vary. The app offers a selection of hot rolled shapes from a library including European IPE, HEA, HEB, HEM shapes; American W shapes; Canadian W metric shapes; as well as British universal beams and columns (UB and UC shapes), with plans to expand to include more shapes from various countries in future updates.

Unit options for input and output measurements include mm or inch. Outputs like area, moment of inertia about the xx axis (Ixx), section modulus about the xx axis (Sxx), etc., can also be displayed in either mm or inch units. Additionally, users can view weight in kg/m or lb/ft units.

The lite version has some limitations such as featuring a selected range of American shapes only in its hot rolled library and restricting built-up sections to have equal top and bottom flanges.
